Frequently asked questions
What we're asked the most about KNX home automation in Tenerife.
How much does a KNX home automation installation cost in Tenerife?
Every home is different: size, finishes, control scope and construction state all move the budget significantly. We deliver a custom study with no obligation — free technical visit, detailed line-item proposal and timeline. Ask and you'll have it within 48 hours.
Can I install KNX in a finished home or only in new builds?
Yes, KNX can be installed in finished homes, although it involves more building work than in new builds (channelling, cable runs). When a renovation isn't viable, we complement with KNX-RF (radio frequency) modules that avoid part of the wiring. The choice depends on the desired functionality and the accessibility of the consumer unit.
Is KNX compatible with Alexa, Google Home or Apple HomeKit?
Yes. Through standard IP gateways, a KNX installation can be controlled by voice via Alexa, Google Assistant or Apple HomeKit without losing the robustness of the KNX bus. We recommend using voice as a complement — not a replacement for physical control — because the KNX bus keeps working even if internet drops.
What's the difference between KNX and wireless systems like Zigbee or Z-Wave?
KNX is a wired international standard, robust, installed in millions of homes and buildings for 30 years. Zigbee and Z-Wave are wireless, cheaper and easier to deploy, but less robust in larger homes with concrete walls and without the same multi-vendor compatibility. For premium homes or tertiary buildings, KNX remains the technical choice.
How long does a KNX installation take and what warranty does Indótica offer?
In new builds, a 150-300 m² home is wired and programmed in 4-8 weeks depending on the construction schedule. The legal warranty on equipment is 2 years, extendable to maintenance contracts of 5 or 10 years with periodic visits. Indótica takes direct technical support to the end user — no middlemen and no manufacturer lock-in.
Does Indótica also work outside Tenerife, in Gran Canaria or the rest of the Canary Islands?
Yes. The office is in Santa Cruz de Tenerife but we have completed installations in Gran Canaria, La Palma and Lanzarote. For projects of significant scale (hotels, institutional buildings, high-budget homes) we work on any island.
